Things to do and places to visit around Corfu

Not everyone wants to stay on the beach for their holiday, so we have compiled a list of the most popular activities and things to see around the island.

 
 

1. Aqualand    (Tel: 26613 52963)

Europe's 3rd largest water park with 18 acres of water slides, wave pool, restaurants, boutiques; a great day out for all the family. Located near to Agios Ioannis, only 30 minutes from Agios Gordios by car.

. Achilleon Palace   (Tel: 26610 56245; open 9am - 6pm daily)
The Achilleon Palace was built in 1890 for Elizabeth, the Empress of Austria for her summer retreat and named after her hero Achilles. It is a beautiful building surrounded by majestic gardens. Well worth a visit for the gardens and views of the mainland - click here for more information.

. Golf Course  (Tel: 26610 94220 or 210 6918795 ; open daily)
Corfu Golf Club's beautiful course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe. It was designed to blend the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made features to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one.
The course is open 7 days a week.

. Paleokastritsa
Situated 16km from Corfu Town, Paleokastritsa is one of the most beautiful villages in Corfu and a renowned Greek beauty spot. Not only only does it have some of the best beaches on the island, it is also surrounded by spectacular scenery. Six different secluded sand and fine pebble beaches are enclosed by tall cliffs, wooded headlands, olive groves, lemon and cypress trees and lush hilly countryside.

. Pantokrator Mountain
Pantokrator, the highest mountain on the island, it stands 918 meters high and has a small monastery on the top of it. The drive to the mountain takes you through olive groves, hairpin bends and finally scrubland as you reach the top. Once at the peak there is a wonderful view of the whole island and nearby mainland Greece and Albania.

 


6. Horseback Riding
    (Tel: 26613 94220; open 9am - 3pm)
Located in Ropa and next to The Corfu Golf Course is a horse riding centre. The cost is 8 euros per person for trail rides of 2 hr duration. Children's ponies and levels from experienced to beginner.

7. Mon Repos and Palaeopolis  (Tel: 26610 30680)
Here you will encounter the birthplace of Prince Phillip, who is the Duke of Edinburgh. Many exhibits can be found here, such as numerous archaeological discoveries, Byzantine remains, as well as furniture and dresses from the period of British rule.
