Pelekas is one of our favourite villages, it has charm, a great
location, fantastic sunsets and one of the best sandy beaches on the
island. Like Glyfada it is popular amongst Greeks
(visitors and locals) but unlike other resorts the
beach area is pretty much untouched apart from one hotel at the far
end.
|
Pelekas is a
beautiful stretch of sand gently shelving into the sea. There are
a handful of bars/tavernas on the beach that serve simple
refreshments You can hire sun beds
& umbrellas & pedalos
-
This beach get packed out in July/August
mainly with Greeks & Italians, so be warned!

How to get to
Kaiser's Throne and Pelekas
Beach. The quickest way to drive to Pelekas is to head
for Sinarades,
Pelekas - so if you look on your map you should be able to
see the general direction you must go.
From Agios Gordios,
drive up the main street until you reach the main bus stop/GB's
Supermarket and bear left towards Sinarades. Continue on this
road past the Pink Palace Youth Hostel, up the hill and inland.
Past the petrol filling station on your left and for a further 1/2
mile or so until you come to the turning on your left into Sinarades
village. Take this turn and drive through the village, take
care as the roads are pretty narrow. Once you are through the
main part of the village you will come across a roundabout, go
straight over and continue until you reach a T junction. At
this point turn left and continue on this road for a couple of
miles, you can see Pelekas village up on the hill in front of
you.
Kaiser's Throne (First)
You will come to a
cross roads, at which you turn left heading towards Pelekas village.
Continue on this road through the village past the village square
with the few small bars and round the corner. As you continue
up the road it splits in two, bear right and up, you should pass a
Taverna on your right called Jimmy's. This road winds up the hill
with a couple of hairpin bends, eventually you arrive at the top and
the home of the Kaiser's Throne and famous Sunset Hotel (aptly named
after the amazing sunsets that can be seen from here). Park
her and walk to the end of the carpark into what seems like a path
into the woods. This extends for 100metres and then opens out
up onto the viewing point known as Kaiser's Throne. From here
it's possible to see as far as the south of the island, all the way
up the west coast to Paleokastritsa and east across to Corfu Town
and the Greek and Albanian mainland. On a clear day the views
are breathtaking.
Once you have finished
with the views you can head back to the car park and have a coffee
or something stronger on the patio at the Sunset Hotel and do a bit
of sunbathing!
Pelekas Beach
Returning the way that you came, drive through Pelekas village past
the main square and out down the hill. Continue until you reach the
big bend at which there is a beautiful red "manor" house on the
corner, this is apparently where the village squire used to live and
most villages have something similar. At this point turn right
past the house, the road is quite wide and bears off to the right,
continue on it all the way. You will see Pelekas beach below
and the road steeply winds down towards it. Follow the signs
for Pelekas Beach Hotel and drive into the hotel premises, past the
entrance, continuing along further until the road starts to narrow
and winds through the olive trees. You will eventually see a
steepish parking area that leads down to the beach, park here and
walk down to the beach and pick your spot!
The return journey is
exactly the same way that you used to get here, so use the
instructions above. Have a great swim and enjoy the crystal
clear water and fine sand. |
